STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut environmental authorities have identified a New York boater who died after he was pulled from the waters of Long Island Sound in the Stamford Harbor.

State Department of Energy and Environmental Protection spokesman Dennis Schain said Monday that Jose Diaz, of Harrison, New York, was among several people aboard a 38-foot cabin cruiser that was nearing the docks Saturday night. He was last seen on the rear swim platform of the vessel.

Authorities said the 51-year-old man was reported missing from the boat around 11 p.m.

Rescuers later found Diaz in the water. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead Sunday morning.

Authorities are investigating.
