LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Southern California authorities are warning about the dangers of fireworks as the Fourth of July approaches.

In Long Beach, where even so-called “Safe and Sane” fireworks are illegal, police say investigations into illegal possession and sales of fireworks have resulted in numerous arrests and citations.

In the most recent investigation, officers served a warrant Monday at a home where fireworks were allegedly being sold from a garage.

Police say they confiscated more than 5,000 pounds of fireworks valued at $30,000 as well as cash and PCP. Four children were turned over to the Department of Children and Family Services.

Overall, the Long Beach investigations have seized more than $45,000 in U.S. currency, two loaded handguns, ammunition and significant quantities of what is believed to be marijuana, cocaine, heroin and PCP.
