PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police and the medical examiner are investigating human remains found at a construction site.

The site is that of a former coin-operated laundry torn down about a year ago.

Police say workers on the site found other bones on June 19 but didn’t report them because they believed they belonged to an animal. Chief Inspector Scott Small says that changed when the workers found more remains Tuesday, including a human skull and jaw bone, including some that fell out of a suitcase buried on the site.

Small says the corpse appeared to be clothed in a woman’s pink jacket, but more work is needed to determine the victim’s gender and identity, which might be determined from some teeth still in the jaw bone.

The site is in the city’s Tioga section.
