CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a North Carolina man to life in prison without parole for the 2013 shooting death of a 19-year-old.

A Mecklenburg County jury on Thursday found 51-year-old Philip Robert Scott guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Danny Barrino. Scott’s trial lasted two days.

Superior Court Judge W. Robert Bell handed down the sentence.

Prosecutors say in June 2013, Scott confronted Barrino at the Charlotte apartment complex where they lived. Scott assaulted Barrino, during which a gun fell from Scott’s waistband.

According to authorities, Barrino saw the gun and ran, but Scott chased after him and shot him in the back. Barrino was pronounced dead at the scene.
