HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) - Authorities in Connecticut say a state social worker has been charged with possession of child pornography.
Hamden police say 56-year-old Luis Rivas-Vasquez turned himself in Wednesday after computer equipment seized from his home turned up 13 movie files of child pornography.
The state Department of Children and Families, where Rivas-Vasquez was a social worker, says it took “immediate action” after learning of Rivas-Vasquez’s arrest, including seizing his state computer.
A spokesman says Rivas-Vasquez was a social worker at the time of his arrest, but he retired before the department found out.
Police say the examination of Rivas-Vasquez’s home computer was part of an investigation that began in February 2015.
Rivas-Vasquez was released from jail on $35,000 bail. It couldn’t be determined Saturday if he has retained an attorney.
