RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - The group charged with promoting development in downtown Rutland has selected its new leader.

The Downtown Rutland Partnership announced Wednesday that Steven Peters will take over as executive director on June 14.

The Rutland Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2qFqixJ ) that the 30-year-old Peters is currently on the board of directors for the Rutland Young Professionals. He hopes that will give him a fresh perspective when it comes to marketing the downtown area and attracting new businesses.

Peters is originally from Connecticut but has lived in Rutland for nearly six years.

He replaces Michael Coppinger who announced in March that he would step down after 10 years in the role.
