NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say 11 alleged Gangster Disciples members have been charged in Tennessee with gang-related activities that include multiple slayings and the distribution of illegal drugs.

A statement from prosecutors says a federal grand jury in Nashville returned a 40-court indictment Thursday. Authorities arrested multiple suspects Friday in Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida during a coordinated takedown.

The indictment includes allegations of gang-related activities including violent assaults, killings, drug distribution and firearms offenses from 2005 through the present day. Defendants are charged with conspiring to participate in a racketeering enterprise.

Acting U.S. Attorney Jack Smith says the charges are part of the office’s effort to dismantle the Gangster Disciples in Middle Tennessee.
