GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A corrections officer in South Carolina has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine.

The Greenville News reports Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis said at a news conference Thursday that 47-year-old Kendall Shon Marlin was arrested in connection with a drug trafficking investigation. A warrant says Marlin attempted to obtain 400 grams of meth from an undercover South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agent.

Lewis says Marlin was arrested Tuesday, was acting alone and that there’s no reason to believe he was distributing inside the jail. He says it’s shocking an officer was involved and that “We’re held to a higher standard.”

Greenville County Affairs Coordinator Bob Mihalic says Marlin was hired in May 2004 and terminated Wednesday.

The county, not the sheriff’s office, runs the Greenville County Detention Center.

SLED is investigating the case.
