TROY, N.Y. (AP) - A 29-year-old man has been convicted of fatally stabbing a longtime city official near the victim’s upstate New York home.

A Rensselaer County jury found Joseph Vandenburgh guilty Friday of second-degree murder in the killing of 56-year-old William Chamberlain.

Authorities say Chamberlain was walking his dog near his home in the town of North Greenbush on the night of Dec. 17, 2015, when he was stabbed about 25 times. When he didn’t return home, his wife went looking for him and found his body.

Chamberlain worked for nearly 30 years for the neighboring city of Troy, where he was director of operations.

Authorities said Vandenburgh was out on parole after serving seven years for a burglary he committed in 2005.
