LAKE ISABELLA, Calif. (AP) - Kern County authorities say a woman died when her car somehow rolled into Lake Isabella.

The county sheriff’s office says the incident was reported about 6 p.m. Thursday at Kissack Cove in the popular southern Sierra Nevada recreation area.

Witnesses indicated the vehicle may have suffered a mechanical failure that caused the car to go into the lake by accident.

Search-and-rescue crews removed the woman from the car but she was pronounced dead at Kern Valley Hospital.

The woman’s identity was withheld pending notification of her family.
