MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis police say a 3-year-old died when he was struck by a car.

Authorities say the boy got out of a van Friday night, walked behind the van and into the street when he was struck by a the car. Passers-by tried to help until emergency crews arrived. The boy was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identifies the victim as Hamza Mohoumed Abdillahi.

Police say the driver is cooperating with investigators.
