GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) - Authorities have identified a toddler who drowned in a Maryland lake outside Washington.

WTOP-FM reports (https://bit.ly/2rAr1gY ) Montgomery County officials say 2-year-old Malik Bojang died after a passer-by pulled him from Lake Whetstone Friday evening. He’d been taken out of the water only minutes after being reported missing and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Montgomery County police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks says no foul play is suspected, and that the child’s family did everything right as they immediately began notifying authorities when they noticed he was missing.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer says parents should be extra vigilant when supervising children around bodies of water, especially during the early swimming season this time of year.
