PETAL, Miss. (AP) - A Louisiana man died of multiple wounds after being shot last week by a Mississippi police officer.

Forrest County Coroner Butch Benedict says an autopsy shows 34-year-old Marc Brandon Davis of LaPlace, Louisiana, was shot several times.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigation spokesman Warren Strain says the shooting happened Friday after an officer responded to a two-vehicle accident in the south Mississippi town of Petal.

Strain says an altercation took place between the officer and Davis, who was in one of the wrecked vehicles. The officer, who is white, shot Davis, who was black.

Davis was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The Petal police officer’s name was not immediately released. Strain says MBI agents are interviewing witnesses.

WHLT-TV (https://bit.ly/2s1iHKn ) reports Davis‘ body was being released to a funeral home.
