FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) - A former fire chief of a now-dissolved volunteer fire department in west Arkansas and his father have been arrested for taking equipment from the department after it was shut down.

Sebastian County Sheriff’s Capt. Philip Pevehouse said Tuesday that ex-Chief Brian Allison and James Dean Allison were arrested on felony conspiracy to commit theft warrants.

Jail records show both men are in custody and no attorney is listed for them.

Pevehouse says firetrucks, gear and equipment were taken from the Jenny Lind Volunteer Fire Department in March after the county quorum court dissolved the district and later merged it into neighboring districts.

He said much of the equipment was given to another fire department and has been recovered.

The unincorporated community of Jenny Lind is southwest of Fort Smith.
