BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A corrections cadet has been arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs into the Rayburn Correctional Center in Angie, Louisiana.

The Louisiana Department of Corrections on Monday arrested 19-year-old Kaleb Powe of Carriere, Mississippi, after he allegedly confessed during questioning to delivering packages of synthetic marijuana three times to the prison over the past four weeks.

Department officials, in a news release, said Powe admitted receiving $400 to smuggle the drugs into the facility. He faces one count of introduction of contraband into a penal institution. It was unknown if he has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

Powe was fired following the arrest. The department says he was a probationary employee who had worked at the prison since Jan. 17.
