PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say an 11-year-old girl has lost one leg and had another partially severed after being caught beneath a moving train in Southwest Philadelphia.

Lt. John Walker says the unidentified girl was at the train tracks with her friends after an early school dismissal Wednesday afternoon.

The girl lost her footing when a CSX freight train passed, and Walker says her legs got caught underneath. She was dragged for about 500 feet.

The girl has been taken to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.

CSX officials are working with Southwest Detectives on the investigation, which they describe as a tragic accident.
