PROVO, Utah (AP) - A Utah father was sentenced to up to five years in prison for his part in his infant’s heroin overdose death.
Reports say 32-year-old Casey Cormani was given credit for the 15 days already served at Utah County Jail and a $5,000 fine Wednesday. He pleaded guilty to a third-degree felony count of attempted manslaughter in April.
The infant’s mother was issued a similar sentence in February.
Reports say the mother found the 1-year-old infant unresponsive with blue or purple lips after her nap on Dec. 2, 2015. Charging documents state that the infant’s parents and the couple they shared with an apartment with had a history of using heroin.
According to police reports, Penny Cormani’s body had heroin levels in her system high enough to kill a grown man.
