MARTINEZ, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a hiker in an Oregon forest found the body of a retired California sheriff’s deputy who went missing two months ago during a white-out snowstorm.

Officials in Deschutes County, Oregon, say Lester Hyder took a wrong turn and his pickup got stuck in more than two feet of snow. It appears Hyder, a deputy in Contra Costa County for more than two decades, walked a mile and a half to look for help.

Hyder’s brother, Roy, reported him missing Dec. 13. The two men were in separate vehicles making a drive from Texas to central Oregon.

The East Bay Times reported Tuesday (https://bayareane.ws/2mECau2 ) that Hyder’s remains were found Feb. 26 near an un-maintained road.

Hyder served in the Marines from 1964 to 1968 and did at least two tours in Vietnam.
