YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A jail inmate in Yakima is facing new charges in connection with assaults on two corrections officers last week.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (https://goo.gl/hNMwBv ) 26-year-old Gustavo Franco is accused of attacking a corrections officer who was conducting a routine security check Friday evening.

A probable cause statement says the officer was struck repeatedly in the face, resulting in bruises and a cut lower lip.

A second probable cause statement says Franco was then restrained and taken to an isolation cell where several hours later he assaulted a second corrections officer who was removing his wrist and ankle restraints.

Franco was initially arrested in connection with an assault and felony violation of a protection order.
