LUGOFF, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say an anonymous letter with GPS coordinates led Kershaw County sheriff’s deputies to a shallow grave and the body of a man missing since December.

Sheriff Jim Matthews said deputies found the body of Adam Davis on Wednesday in Lee County after the tip. State Law Enforcement Division agents spent Thursday excavating the body and collecting evidence.

Matthews says an autopsy determined someone killed Davis and has started a murder investigation. He did not say how Davis died.

The sheriff says deputies are also trying to determine who wrote the letter with such specific details on where to find the body.

Davis disappeared Dec. 29 after going to a bar.
