BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - High winds have left scattered damage across a wide area of Alabama.

In Huntsville, authorities say a tree fell on an apartment building and lightning caused a house fire as storms hit the Tennessee Valley early Friday. No injuries are being reported.

Crews are working to restore electrical service after storms caused scattered power outages in central and south Alabama, and reports from the Storm Prediction Center say multiple trees are down.

Winds as strong as 60 mph were recorded as a line of storms moved through the state overnight.
