FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Attorney General’s Office is taking over the prosecution of a Casa Grande woman accused of killing her 13-year-old daughter.

The Casa Grande Dispatch (https://goo.gl/ABL6af ) reports that the transfer was forced by Pinal County Attorney Kent Volkmer having provided legal advice to defendant Connie Villa while he was a defense attorney.

Villa is charged with the first-degree murder of Ania Rael Macias on Christmas Day 2013. She also is accused of trying to poison her three other children.

Assistant Attorney General Blaine Gadow said he is studying years of documents in the case and assessing whether the prosecution should make any changes, including whether to still seek the death penalty.

No trial date has been set.
