GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - Leflore County schools are holding optional Saturday sessions to help students prepare for statewide testing.

The school district is in conservatorship, and officials are trying to improve the schools’ academic performance.

The Greenwood Commonwealth reports (https://bit.ly/2mbK6T3 ) the Saturday sessions will last about three hours, and federal money will cover the costs.

Ilean Richards, the district’s conservator, said the sessions were requested by the principals of Claudine Brown, Amanda Elzy and Leflore County elementary schools and Amanda Elzy and Leflore County junior high schools.
