LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles County jail inmate has died of apparent strangulation after being found alone in his cell.

The Los Angeles Times (https://lat.ms/2mvBKbJ ) says the 48-year-old man was found face-down on a bunk with a shirt around his head on Feb. 24 at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility.

He died Thursday.

Authorities suspect he committed suicide.

It’s the fourth death this month and the seventh this year in the nation’s largest jail system.

The Times says a 72-year-old inmate with a head injury died Sunday in a wheelchair at the Men’s Central Jail while waiting to be taken to a hospital.

A 64-year-old Twin Towers inmate died on March 1 and a 43-year-old man died on March 3 at the North County Correctional Facility.

The deaths are under investigation.
