Sen. Chris Murphy said Monday that Republicans’ legislation to roll back parts of Obamacare is being “rushed through” to prevent Americans from having time to understand its effects.

“This is being rushed through so that the American people won’t understand what’s happening here,” Mr. Murphy, Connecticut Democrat, said on CNN’s “New Day.”

“And I do think it’s my responsibility to try to explain to my constituents and to people throughout the country what will happen to their insurance rates - that they will spike if this bill goes into effect - so that we build pressure on Republicans to come and work with Democrats,” he said.

Republicans have said there will ultimately be more choices and lower costs under the GOP plan.

Lawmakers on both sides are awaiting projections from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office on how much the GOP plan is expected to cost and how it will affect health insurance coverage.

The White House has downplayed the CBO ahead of the report, saying Congress’s budget scorekeeper was off on its projections on Obamacare.
