BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities in Buffalo say they’ve charged a 29-year-old man with starting a fire that forced dozens of people from their apartments.
Police say Jonathan Jimenez started a fire inside an apartment building on Lafayette Avenue early Saturday morning. About 90 people living in more than 30 apartments in the structure were displaced.
Officials say the blaze caused nearly $2 million in damage. None of the residents were hurt, but three firefighters suffered minor injuries.
Jimenez was arrested and charged with arson, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. He’s being held Tuesday in the Erie County Jail. It couldn’t be learned from prosecutors if he has a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
