Names of couple who died in Mesa murder-suicide released

MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities have released the names of a couple who died in a murder-suicide last month at an east Mesa apartment complex.

Mesa police say they believe 23-year-old Kevin Leyva fatally stabbed his girlfriend, Kasara Licea, with a knife before he killed himself.

The bodies were found inside the couple’s residence on the evening of Feb. 8 after a family member reportedly couldn’t reach the 21-year-old Licea.

The names were released Tuesday after The Arizona Republic filed a records request with the Mesa Police Department to learn more about the circumstances of the deaths.
