ELKO, Nev. (AP) - A northeast Nevada justice of the peace has been hit with a temporary protection order after his wife filed for divorce and alleged emotional abuse during their 18-year marriage.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports (https://bit.ly/2nEIEZC ) that an Elko County District Court judge on Friday signed the order against Elias “Choch” Goicoechea (go-gah-CHEE’-yah), after it was sought by Kathy Goicoechea.

The order expires April 9.

The Free Press says Kathy Goicoechea filed for divorce Thursday in Pershing Justice Court in Lovelock.

Elko Justice Court officials said Tuesday that Elias Goicoechea planned to issue a statement about the filings.

He was continuing to preside over cases.

Goicoechea was elected in November and sworn in Dec. 30 to a newly created position on the Elko Justice Court bench.
