PHOENIX (AP) - Phoenix police say an armed robbery and homicide suspect who died in a confrontation with police pointed a gun an officer before that officer and another officer fired rifles at the man.

Police identified the suspect killed Wednesday afternoon as 25-year-old Todd Munson of Phoenix and said he was sought in the shooting death of 40-year-old Nathan Cahal early Wednesday morning and several subsequent armed robberies while Munson was being pursued by police.

Police say the confrontation leading to Munson’s death occurred when an undercover officer intentionally crashed his vehicle into a stolen yellow Corvette that Munson was driving.

According to police, Munson also stole or attempted to steal at least one other vehicle and several people’s cellphones.

Police said a semi-automatic handgun was found inside the Corvette.
