WASHINGTON (AP) - Firefighters used a rope system to rescue a man who had been trapped for more than two hours after falling down an icy Washington hill to save his dog.

Officials say the man went down the hill in Rock Creek Park on Wednesday to rescue his Bernese mountain dog, which had slipped and fallen. Another person who was with him called 911 for help.

Fire crews set up a rope to help pull the man and his dog off the hillside. The man was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and exposure to the cold. The dog was also treated at an animal hospital.

WTOP-FM (https://bit.ly/2n3eu5n ) reports that a video shared by D.C. Fire and EMS on Twitter shows the man being rescued.
