NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - North Little Rock police say the driver of a southbound pickup truck that hit a bicyclist in the northbound lane of the city’s Main Street Bridge was recently released from prison.

Officers said 53-year-old John Fitzgerald Blanks struck 52-year-old Ricky Anderson on Wednesday. Blanks was thrown from the truck when it hit a concrete barrier. Both men died.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Friday (https://bit.ly/2n66sc7 ) that police said Blanks was driving a truck that had been reported stolen in Star City, and that Blanks hit Anderson shortly after being involved in a hit-and-run crash a few blocks away. Sgt. Brian Dedrick says Blanks had been released from the Cummins Unit near Varner on Tuesday and likely had family in the Little Rock area.

Blanks was convicted of robbery in 2013.
