DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) - A man has been given 50 years in prison for fatally shooting another Davenport man.
Court records say 20-year-old Quantrell McDaniel was sentenced Thursday in Scott County District Court. He’d pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after prosecutors lowered the charge from first-degree murder. Police say McDaniel shot 29-year-old Brandon Smith after a confrontation outside a store in September 2015.
A co-defendant, 25-year-old Dantawn Cole, also was sentenced Thursday. Court records say he was given five years for involuntary manslaughter and going armed with intent. The sentences are to run at the same time. Police say Cole gave McDaniel the gun used to kill Smith.
