NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) - A man who killed an innocent bystander and wounded another when he opened fire on a group of men in New Brunswick is now headed to prison.

Rolando Sanchez received a three-year sentence on Friday. The 25-year-old New Brunswick man had pleaded guilty last month to aggravated manslaughter as part of a plea deal with Middlesex County prosecutors.

Authorities say the May 2014 shooting occurred on Hale Street in New Brunswick. They say 28-year-old Gregorio Hernandez and another man were sitting on the front stoop of a home when they both were hit by bullets.

Hernandez was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later. The other man was wounded but survived.

Authorities say the two were not among the shooter’s intended targets.
