SAUGUS, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts man was arrested after police say he crashed a rental truck into a police cruiser and auto body shop as police were chasing him.

Saugus police say they began chasing a U-Haul early Sunday morning in connection with a sandwich shop break-in. The truck traveled into Lynn and back into Saugus before going into Revere, where it struck a Revere police cruiser. An officer who was outside the cruiser wasn’t hurt.

The truck then crashed into the auto body shop and caught fire.

Authorities charged 50-year-old Robert Silvia of Cambridge with several crimes including negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and breaking and entering. He is being detained by Saugus police.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Silvia has a lawyer who could respond to the allegations.
