CLEVELAND (AP) - Cleveland police say two men in a car who were shot by officers during a gunfight after a six-hour standoff remained in critical condition a day a later as two other adults who had exited the vehicle were charged with illegally having a firearm.
The Tuesday morning confrontation began when two officers on foot patrol near downtown approached a car with four people inside and spotted a gun in the back seat. Cleveland.com (https://bit.ly/2miiBKI ) reports the 21-year-old man and 21-year-old woman who got out of the back seat without the gun before the standoff were arrested on the weapons count.
Negotiators spent hours trying to persuade the remaining two men to surrender. Police say one fired shots from the car, grazing an officer’s leg, and SWAT officers returned fire.
