ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A man accused of killing his father and critically injuring his mother in a 2015 knife attack has pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and sentenced to 27 years in prison.

The Albuquerque Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2mjXAQ5) 26-year-old James Finch was sentenced Thursday under terms of his plea agreement with the 2nd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Police were called to the family’s northeast Albuquerque home in August 2015 and found 60-year-old David Finch dead in the entryway and Dr. Kathy Finch beaten, stabbed and clinging to life.

They say James Finch was covered in blood, wearing nothing but socks and hiding under patio furniture on his parents’ back porch.

Police say James Finch had been released from jail days before the attack.

He was found competent to stand trial last October.
