SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a 49-year-old Utah home mechanic died after a vehicle he was working on collapsed atop him.

Salt Lake City police Lt. Robin Heiden tells KSL-TV (https://bit.ly/2mxiPhZ ) the apparent accident happened Wednesday evening in a parking lot near 1800 West and Kimberly Circle.

Police say the friend left the man for about 20 minutes, and returned to find him trapped beneath the vehicle.

Heiden says it’s possible the jack slipped or failed.

The friend and neighbors pulled the man from underneath the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The man’s name wasn’t immediately disclosed.

A neighbor says he had been working on the vehicle for almost two weeks.
