MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating a fire that swept through a vacant home near New York City and damaged two neighboring homes.

Firefighters spent hours battling the blaze that started on late Sunday in Mount Vernon.

The house collapsed and flames spread to homes on either side.

Mount Vernon Fire Chief Al-Farid Salahuddin says no injuries were reported.

A Red Cross spokeswoman says initial reports indicate several people were displaced from one of the neighboring homes.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
