LUSBY, Md. (AP) - The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office says an eight-month-old boy died after he was attacked by the family dog.
The department said in a news release that deputies were sent to a home in Lusby about 1 p.m. Thursday. Officials say the deputies arrived within one minute of the call and saw the dog attacking the baby.
Authorities say the deputies shot the animal to stop the attack. They found the infant was dead.
Investigators say a family friend was watching the baby.
Deputies did not provide further details, including the breed of the dog and whether the deputies’ shots had killed it.
Sheriff Mike Evans will hold a press conference on the incident Friday at noon.
