BROCKTON, Mass. (AP) - A Brockton man has been acquitted of a murder charge in the death of his neighbor in a case that defense attorneys say had an “astounding” lack of evidence.

The Enterprise (https://bit.ly/2ndcd49 ) reports that Antonio Pinto was found not guilty Monday of shooting Daniel Esdale in October 2014. Pinto has been jailed for more than two years.

Esdale, a purported member of the Bloods street gang, was found dead inside his apartment with a gunshot wound to his head. Pinto also lived in the building.

Prosecutors acknowledged that evidence against Pinto was circumstantial and said they couldn’t prove a motive. But they contended the entirety of evidence indicated Pinto was the shooter, and said he showed signs of a guilty conscience.

The defense says other possible suspects weren’t investigated.
