SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The trial of a Massachusetts man charged with killing his 5-month-old son has ended in a mistrial after the jury could not reach a verdict.

The Republican (https://bit.ly/2ouW0Z6 ) reports that a Hampden Superior Court judge declared a mistrial on Tuesday after jurors reported they were deadlocked on the murder charge against 29-year-old Raymond Collazo, of Springfield.

The jury had been deliberating nearly a week. The trial started March 3.

Prosecutors say Collazo violently shook his son, Davian Collazo, on Dec. 10, 2010, then left him alone for hours with a fatal brain injury.

The defense said that the boy died of pneumonia.

It was not immediately clear if prosecutors would retry the case.
