LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a man was arrested after he stabbed a female patient at a Southern California hospital.

Long Beach police spokeswoman Marlene Arrona said Tuesday that the woman is in stable condition and expected to survive her wounds.

Arrona says the attack happened around 3 a.m. while the man was visiting the patient’s room at St. Mary Medical Center. Investigators say the woman and her alleged attacker knew each other and the incident stems from a domestic dispute.

The suspect was arrested a few blocks away on suspicion of attempted murder.
