PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A man accused of holding up a north Philadelphia laundromat before he was pursued by the owner and shot will face multiple charges.

Police said Tuesday that the 41-year-old suspect is being charged with robbery, aggravated assault, theft, and related offenses.

Authorities allege that he was armed with a knife when he demanded money Sunday at the laundromat. They said the owner handed over $2,000 but then pursued the suspect, who threw the money and turned before the owner shot him twice, also wounding a 52-year-old woman waiting for a bus.

Authorities said earlier that no charges would be filed against the 33-year-old business owner, calling the shooting of the suspect self-defense and the bystander an accident. Police said they were seeking bystanders seen scooping up the money and fleeing.
