DERRY, N.H. (AP) - A shooting in New Hampshire that left a 17-year-old Massachusetts boy dead was an act of self-defense.

Investigators say 21-year-old Devin Rios shot Cole Kinney, of Lowell, Massachusetts, once in the chest in July 2016 in Derry, New Hampshire. Kinney’s death was ruled a homicide.

Authorities on Thursday said witness interviews and evidence support Rios’ claim that he fired in self-defense.

Rios, of Derry, will not be charged with homicide, though officials say other charges could be filed in the case.

The Attorney General’s Office says an explanation of its reasoning will be released once legal proceedings are completed.

Further details about the shooting haven’t been released.
