OXFORD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of the man killed when a rotted tree that was likely knocked over by strong winds fell on his car in central Massachusetts.

Police say 55-year-old Peter Kintzer, of Sutton, died when the tree fell on his Honda Fit in Oxford at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday.

Kintzer was one of two people who died in southern New England on Thursday when trees fell on their vehicles.

Police say 40-year-old James Marcelynas, of Wethersfield, Connecticut, died when a tree fell on his car in Columbia, Connecticut.

The National Weather Service says wind gusts of nearly 60 mph hit the region Thursday, knocking down trees and causing tens of thousands of power outages.
