TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Police in Tempe say a man who allegedly assaulted his own mother and grandmother before stealing the family vehicle has been arrested.
They say 37-year-old Nicholas Elkins was taken into custody without incident around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police say Elkins was walking on a Tempe street and still in possession of the keys to the stolen vehicle.
They say Elkins’ grandmother is in her 80s and remains hospitalized in critical condition from the assault.
Police say his mother is in her 60s and is in serious condition.
Authorities didn’t disclose what Elkin’s possible motive was behind the assault, but they say he has a history of drug abuse.
