GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Kentucky starting guard Taylor Murray is missing the 20th-ranked Wildcats’ game against No. 5 South Carolina on Saturday at the Southeastern Conference Tournament with a neck strain.

The school announced Murray’s absence about an hour before tipoff of the first SEC semifinals.

Murray is a 5-foot-6 sophomore from Odenton, Maryland, who has started 28 games this season and averaged 12.7 points. She scored a career high 29 points in the Wildcats’ 95-87 loss to South Carolina last Sunday.

Murray hurt herself late in a quarterfinal win over Alabama on Friday, slamming hard into a defender before hitting the ground. Kentucky coach Matthew Mitchell said after the game he had no issue with the play, calling it clean and legal.

The team said Murray’s status is day-to-day going forward.
