CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island authorities have yet to locate an inmate who walked away from a work detail, but say the search for him did turn up a stash of illegal narcotics.
Police say a man and two women were arrested Friday after officers went to a home in Cranston where they suspected Rony Martinez-Pereyra might be hiding. He wasn’t there, but police said they found half a kilogram of Fentanyl, two pounds of marijuana and 16 marijuana plants, and possible evidence of drug trafficking.
The state Department of Corrections says Martinez-Pereyra, an inmate at the state prison in Cranston, walked away from a minimum security work detail on Thursday.
He was serving a three-year sentence for drug and gun charges.
