BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - A former Boulder County sheriff’s deputy accused of plotting to smuggle marijuana edibles and chewing tobacco into the jail has been sentenced to a year and a half of probation.

The Daily Camera reports (https://goo.gl/gxzj49 ) 33-year-old Tyler Mason was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor count of official misconduct. As part of a plea deal, prosecutors dropped two felony counts of conspiring to introduce contraband.

The sheriff’s department says Mason agreed to smuggle tobacco and edibles to an inmate while Mason was a deputy. Undercover investigators saw a Longmont woman give Mason $160 to buy the contraband on Sept. 28.

Mason, who was a childhood friend of the inmate, was experiencing financial hardship and agreed to smuggle the contraband for money.

The deputy was fired Oct. 12.
