LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The top Republican in the Arkansas Senate says he’ll ask the chamber to take up a plan to allow concealed handguns at colleges, some bars and state buildings such as the Capitol after the bill stalled in committee.
Senate Majority Leader Jim Hendren said Wednesday he’ll ask Senators to remove the bill from the Judiciary Committee to consider an amendment expanding the proposal. The bill currently would allow anyone 25 and older with a concealed handgun license to carry at a college or university if they undergo up to 16 hours of active shooter training.
The bill stalled after the proposed amendment to remove the age restriction, lower the training requirement to eight hours and expand the places it would allow concealed handguns failed before the committee.
